Candidate Filing Deadline for Three Primary Offices Extended in OC
Filing Deadline Extended for Orange County Seats
ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. – The Orange County Registrar of Voters announced on Saturday that the candidate filing period for three critical positions in the upcoming June primary has been extended. This change results from the original deadline passing without any eligible incumbents submitting their nominations.
The filing extension applies to the 38th Congressional District, as well as the 68th and 72nd Assembly Districts. California law permits such extensions when incumbents do not file for re-election, and this specific scenario has triggered the adjustment.
Originally set for March 6, the missed deadline means those incumbents will no longer be eligible to appear on the June 2 ballot.
Key dates associated with the extended filing period include:
- Friday, March 6: The original filing deadline passed at 5 p.m.
- Saturday, March 7: Election officials announced the filing extension.
- Monday, March 9 – Wednesday, March 11: Candidate documentation will be accessible from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Wednesday, March 11: The final extended deadline for submissions will close at 5 p.m.
- June 2: Primary Election Day.
Prospective candidates interested in these positions can begin obtaining and filing the necessary paperwork at the Registrar of Voters office in Santa Ana starting Monday morning. This allows new candidates the opportunity to enter the race ahead of the primary election.
