Britney Spears Scheduled for Court Appearance on Monday Following DUI Charges in California
Britney Spears Charged with DUI Following March Arrest
VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. – Pop star Britney Spears has officially been charged with a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence, stemming from her arrest on March 4 near Ventura County. Spears is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office filed the charge late last week, noting that Spears was allegedly under the combined influence of drugs and alcohol when stopped by California Highway Patrol officers. According to reports, she displayed signs of impairment and failed several field sobriety tests while being pulled over on the 101 Freeway in Newbury Park.
Following her arrest, Spears was booked into a Ventura County jail but was released the next day on bail. Her legal representation has labeled the incident as "completely inexcusable" and confirmed that Spears voluntarily entered a substance abuse treatment facility approximately one month post-arrest.
Details regarding the specific substances involved remain undisclosed. The nature and quantity of the drugs or alcohol that contributed to the charges have not been revealed, and the chemical toxicology test results are not publicly available. Under California law, Spears’ attorney is permitted to attend court proceedings on her behalf, given that the charge is a misdemeanor.
