Pop icon Britney Spears has voluntarily entered a treatment facility, as confirmed by a representative on Sunday, April 12.
While the representative did not disclose the specific reasons for her decision, the news follows a recent report from TMZ, which states that the singer is seeking treatment for substance abuse.
Spears’ check-in comes just over a month after her March 4 arrest in Ventura County, California, on suspicion of DUI. Following the incident, she was booked and released from custody the next morning. A spokesperson addressed the situation, expressing, “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
The representative also noted that Spears’ sons would be spending time with her and that her family would create a plan focused on her well-being. While Spears has not publicly commented on the DUI arrest, she made a return to Instagram on March 27, sharing a dance video with her 19-year-old son, Jayden Federline, and expressing gratitude to her fans: “Thank you guys for all your support… spending time with family and friends is such a blessing. Stay kind !!!”
In a more recent Instagram post, amid videos reflecting her signature dance style, Spears emphasized her vulnerability with a caption that read, “When peeps try to make you larger than life… tell them to BOW if I ever showed them the fragility of my real heart.”
