Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz to Star in New ‘The Mummy’ Film Set for 2028 Release
Oscar winners Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz will reprise their iconic roles in the upcoming installment of Universal’s The Mummy franchise, scheduled for release on May 19, 2028. This announcement was made by Universal on Tuesday, which confirmed that no other major films are slated for that date.
The film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence, who recently collaborated with Universal on the vampire movie Abigail, set to debut in 2024.
Sean Daniel, a veteran producer of the Mummy series that has collectively grossed $1.8 billion worldwide, is returning to produce this new project. Daniel previously oversaw the original trilogy as well as the 2017 reboot featuring Tom Cruise.
Production will also see contributions from William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein through Project X Entertainment. Meanwhile, Fraser, alongside Hivemind’s Jason F. Brown and Denis Stewart, will serve as executive producers.
Oversight of production is being managed by Universal’s Executive Vice President of Production Development, Jay Polidoro, and Director of Production Development, Jacqueline Garell.
Looking ahead, Radio Silence is preparing for the release of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, which will premiere at SXSW and is set to open in theaters on March 20.
