Bradley Cooper Set to Direct, Write, and Star in Ocean’s Prequel at Warner Bros
Bradley Cooper in Talks to Direct Upcoming Oceans Prequel
Sources indicate that Bradley Cooper is being considered to write and direct a prequel to Warner Bros.’ Oceans franchise, following Lee Isaac Chung’s departure from the project. This move aims to ensure that filming can commence before the end of the year. While there has been speculation about Cooper potentially starring in the film, no formal agreement has been reached as yet.
Although discussions are ongoing, it is important to note that no contracts have been finalized. The project, produced by LuckyChap Entertainment, has already secured Margot Robbie for a leading role.
Details regarding the plot of the prequel remain closely guarded. The latest script revision was completed by Carrie Solomon, based on characters originally created by George Clayton Johnson and Jack Golden Russell.
Cooper recently took the director’s chair for Searchlight’s Is This Thing On?, featuring Will Arnett as a man navigating the challenges of divorce through stand-up comedy. Notably, Cooper has received 12 Academy Award nominations throughout his career, with four for Best Picture in connection to A Star Is Born, Joker, Nightmare Alley, and American Sniper, and he also directed and starred in Maestro.
The Oceans franchise began with the 1960 film featuring the Rat Pack, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. In 2001, Steven Soderbergh revitalized the series with a new trilogy starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon, among others. An all-female installment released in 2018 featured Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, and Cate Blanchett. The earlier films of the 2000s collectively grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide.
