Blumhouse Teams Up with Curry Barker for a Romance-Inspired Horror Film ‘Obsession’ – Check Out the Trailer!
Focus Features has released the first teaser for Obsession, a highly anticipated horror film directed and written by Curry Barker. The film was acquired at the Toronto International Film Festival in a deal reportedly valued at over $15 million. Blumhouse, led by Jason Blum, has also joined the project as an executive producer.
Starring Michael Johnston, Obsession follows a hopeless romantic who breaks a mystical “One Wish Willow” to win the affection of his crush. While he gets what he desires, he soon realizes that some wishes come with dark and unforeseen consequences.
As one of the most eagerly awaited horror films of 2026, Obsession premiered in the midnight section of this year’s Toronto Film Festival and enjoyed sold-out screenings at Fantastic Fest, where it won the People’s Choice Award at Sitges. The film is scheduled for release in U.S. theaters on May 15, 2026.
The cast also features Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter. Producers include James Harris of Teashop Productions, Haley Nicole Johnson of Under the Shell, and Christian Mercuri for Capstone Pictures, which fully financed the film and holds world rights. The project is co-represented domestically by CAA Media Finance. Currently, Obsession has received a 97% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Recent titles from Focus Features include Anemone, which marked Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis’s return to acting, as well as Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet, and Alex Russell’s Lurker. Upcoming releases also include The History of Sound on December 18 and Song Sung Blue on Christmas Day.
Looking ahead, the recently merged Blumhouse-Atomic Monster is slated to release Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 this Friday, along with other titles such as Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, Mortal Kombat 2, Jacob Chase’s Insidious, and Rob Savage’s Other Mommy, in addition to Obsession. Blumhouse is also collaborating with Spooky Pictures on Barker’s next film, Anything But Ghosts, for which he will direct from a script co-written with Cooper Tomlinson, who will also star.
