Blair Underwood Joins Cast of Fox’s ‘Doc’ for Season 3
Fox’s medical drama Doc is set to welcome a distinguished new addition to its cast. Blair Underwood will join the series as a regular for its upcoming third season, officially confirmed yesterday. Fans can expect to see Underwood debut as a guest star in the two-hour Season 2 finale on April 14.
Underwood takes over from Felicity Huffman, who is concluding her year-long arc in Season 2. His character, Dr. Ben Grant, is portrayed as a world-class trauma and cardiothoracic surgeon known for his impressive skill and an ego to match. Described as a once-in-a-generation talent, Dr. Grant’s personality is magnetic and confident, but he meets his match in Dr. Amy Larsen, played by Molly Parker. Their interactions promise to be intense, with a combination of brilliance and clashing egos leading to dramatic sparks.
Doc is inspired by real events and is based on an Italian format. The series chronicles Dr. Amy Larsen’s journey as she strives to rebuild her life after a car accident wipes out eight years of her memory.
Alongside Underwood, the cast includes Omar Metwally, Amirah Vann, Jon Ecker, Anya Banerjee, Patrick Walker, and Charlotte Fountain-Jardim, with Huffman joining in Season 2. Scott Wolf also appears in a recurring role.
The second season, with its next episode airing tonight, is executive produced by co-showrunners Barbie Kligman and Hank Steinberg, along with Erwin Stoff, Russell Fine, John Weber, Frank Siracusa, Carol Barbee, and David Foster.
Currently, Underwood can also be seen in Youngblood, a reimagining of the 1980s hockey film. He recently co-starred in RZA’s indie film One Spoon of Chocolate, which premiered at Tribeca last year, and has completed production on the Netflix romance Don’t Ever Wonder alongside Larenz Tate and Nia Long. Additionally, Underwood directed, produced, and stars in the forthcoming psychological thriller Viral.
