Birthday Celebration Turns Tragic: Man Shot at Wilmington Pizza Restaurant
Fatal Shooting During Birthday Celebration in Wilmington
A tragic incident occurred at a Wilmington pizza parlor over the weekend when 26-year-old Andres Castellano was fatally shot while attempting to break up a fight between two women. The young father was celebrating his birthday with family and friends at Red West Pizza when the violence erupted.
In response to his untimely death, mourners gathered for a vigil outside the restaurant on Monday, lighting candles and leaving balloons in tribute to Castellano. The gathering reflected the profound grief felt by his loved ones, who remembered him as a vibrant and caring individual.
“He was a great man. He didn’t deserve this at all,” said Michelle Costa, a friend of the victim.
The shooting took place shortly before 6 p.m. on Saturday. Castellano intervened as tensions escalated, but was struck by gunfire, along with another man. Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital; however, Castellano did not survive his injuries, while the second victim is reported to be in stable condition.
“I tried to help him. I tried my best,” Costa recounted, emphasizing how quickly the situation intensified.
As family and friends shared prayers, they reflected fondly on Castellano’s impact on their lives. “Every time he walks in the room, he lights up the room,” Costa said. “He makes everybody smile, laugh, cry sometimes, but out of being funny. He was a good man.”
Castellano leaves behind his parents and a 5-year-old daughter.
Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a suspect believed to be the shooter. However, further details, including the individual’s identity, have yet to be disclosed.
