Bill Lawrence Hints at Exciting New Storylines in Season 4 of ‘Shrinking’ with Familiar Faces
As the Season 3 finale of Shrinking approaches, co-creator Bill Lawrence is closing one chapter while preparing for another. The finale, which airs Wednesday on Apple TV+, will conclude the current storyline, but Lawrence has confirmed that Season 4 will explore “a new story with the same cast.”
Lawrence shared his enthusiasm on social media, stating, “Season finale and end of this three season story next week. Hope you dig it. (Excited to start completely new story next year. Feels scary/risky/fun). Thanks for watching.”
In a follow-up post, he clarified the show’s trajectory: “We always pitched a three season story on Shrinking: grief, forgiveness, moving forward. We wanted to stay true to that and end the way we planned. (So excited to do Season 4 and a new story with the same cast.)”
Currently, Shrinking stars Jason Segel as therapist Jimmy Laird, who navigates the challenges of parenting his daughter, Alice (Lukita Maxwell), while coping with the loss of his wife, aided by his mentor, Dr. Paul Rhoades (Harrison Ford).

The ensemble cast includes Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Christa Miller, and Ted McGinley. Season 3 has also seen guest appearances from Michael J. Fox, Jeff Daniels, Sherry Cola, Lisa Gilroy, and others.
Lawrence elaborated on the series’ evolution, stating, “The same way that Shrinking, if the fourth season started and Jason Segel woke up and went, ‘you know I’ve been thinking about it, and I was still super sad about my wife,’ everybody would be like, What are you doing? We saw that already. But as a writer, he told 36 stories with these actors and actresses. We have a new story to tell, and that’ll either be a two- or three-season story or it won’t. I never find that stuff daunting.”
