Beckett Sennecke shines with a hat trick and game-winning goal as the Ducks triumph over the Flames
CALGARY, Canada — Rookie Beckett Sennecke secured his first NHL hat trick with a decisive overtime goal, leading the Anaheim Ducks to a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Calgary Flames on Sunday night.
Sennecke’s game-winner came during a 2-on-1 break, where he skillfully kept the puck and fired a shot past Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf, finding the net just inside the post at 2:54 of overtime.
The win marked Anaheim’s seventh consecutive victory, pushing their record to 28-21-3. Chris Kreider also contributed to the scoreline, while teammates Mikael Granlund and Alex Killorn each recorded two assists. Goaltender Lukas Dostal delivered a strong performance with 32 saves, improving his season record to 19-12-2.
Sennecke’s three-goal performance elevates his season tally to 18 goals and 41 points overall, placing him second in rookie scoring behind Montreal’s Ivan Demidov, who has 43 points from 11 goals and 32 assists.
With this victory, the Ducks are now just one point behind the second-place Edmonton Oilers in the Pacific Division, holding one game in hand. The two teams are set to face off again on Monday in Edmonton.
Calgary’s roster, now at 21-25-6, featured goals from Jonathan Huberdeau, Matt Coronato, and Hunter Brzustewicz, who netted his first NHL goal. However, the Flames remain winless in their last four outings, with Wolf stopping 17 shots, bringing his record to 15-21-2.
Huberdeau’s ninth goal snapped a ten-game goalless drought, while Brzustewicz’s milestone came in his 18th NHL game. The Flames had entered the matchup struggling offensively, having scored only once in their previous three games since trading defenseman Rasmus Andersson. However, Huberdeau and Brzustewicz quickly gave Calgary a 2-0 lead within the first eight minutes of play.
The game saw a shift in momentum, with the Ducks tying the score at 2-2 by the third period. Coronato reclaimed the lead for the Flames at 4:50, but Kreider’s equalizer at 13:08 forced the game into overtime.
This marks the Ducks’ second seven-game winning streak of the season, a feat they last accomplished in the 2014-15 season.
