Bear Encounter Leaves Woman Injured in Monrovia
A woman was injured Saturday morning after a bear approached her while she was walking her dog near the foothills of Monrovia, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred around 9:20 a.m., as reported by the Monrovia Police Department. During the encounter, the bear swiped its claw, striking the back of the woman’s knee and causing injuries that authorities described as non-life-threatening.
Following the incident, the woman managed to leave the area, prompting a nearby resident to call 911. She was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials confirmed that her injuries were not serious, and she is expected to make a full recovery.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has been alerted and is responding to the situation.
In light of this encounter, authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant. They remind the community that bears are wild animals that may be present in foothill neighborhoods. If a bear is encountered, individuals should stay calm, avoid running, and slowly back away while providing the animal with ample space.
Updates on the situation will be released as more information becomes available.
