Beagles Find Loving Forever Homes as They Journey from Wisconsin to Los Angeles
Five Rescued Beagles Travel 2,000 Miles from Wisconsin to Los Angeles
In a heartwarming story of rescue and renewal, five beagles have made an extraordinary journey from Wisconsin to Los Angeles, traveling 2,000 miles after being liberated from the notorious Ridglan Farms facility.
The Beagle Freedom Project (BFP), a key organization in the effort to rescue these dogs, has successfully placed hundreds of beagles into homes across the United States. The recent group that arrived in Los Angeles includes four females and one male, all of whom have now been adopted into loving families.
The journey began with a somber reminder of the beagles’ past. Tattoos bearing identification numbers were still visible on some of the dogs, as they had previously known only a life of confinement, devoid of names or care. Earlier this month, 500 beagles were rescued from Ridglan Farms and transferred to the BFP, while another 1,000 were placed with another animal rights organization.
Images and videos capturing the beagles being released from their crates gained traction on social media, amplifying the public’s call for their adoption. Last week, BFP volunteers Malina and Sam took on the responsibility of transporting the dogs to their new homes, spanning a route from Wisconsin through Oklahoma to Southern California. The beagles traveled safely in crates, with brief stops along the way, aiming for BFP’s headquarters in Valley Village to help them adjust to their new lives.
Upon arrival, the beagles, who had been bred for laboratory testing, experienced the freedom they had long been denied. As the crates were opened on a sunny Saturday, a dozen supporters gathered to welcome them. While some dogs quickly bolted into the grass, others hesitated, cautiously exploring the unfamiliar terrain.
BFP organizers noted that it may take days or even weeks for the beagles to fully adjust to their new surroundings. Despite their traumatic past, these dogs are known for their gentle and loving nature. Shannon Keith, founder of the Beagle Freedom Project, expressed her joy at the successful rescue, stating, "Yesterday was an incredible success, as it was the crescendo of a long and painful week for the Beagle Freedom Project team. Getting to see them run and play… was quite thrilling!"
All five rescued beagles have found their forever homes, marking a hopeful new chapter in their lives.
