Baz Luhrmann Shares Exclusive Footage of Elvis Presley’s Vegas Years in ‘EPiC: Elvis Presley In Concert’ Teaser
Baz Luhrmann, renowned for his Oscar-nominated work on Elvis, has unveiled the first official look at his upcoming documentary, EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert. The trailer and a selection of period stills have been released, showcasing a compelling glimpse into Presley’s storied legacy.
EPiC features previously undiscovered footage from Elvis Presley’s iconic, albeit often overlooked, Las Vegas residency in the 1970s. This documentary intertwines this rare material with 16mm footage from the 1972 concert film Elvis on Tour, along with cherished 8mm film from the Graceland archives. Additionally, the film includes recordings of Presley narrating "his side of the story."
The documentary’s trailer opens with the dramatic strains of Also sprach Zarathustra, capturing an anxious Presley fidgeting with his ring. "In 1969, Elvis returned to the stage to begin a legendary residency in Las Vegas," the narrative states. “For 40 years, there have been rumors of lost footage. … It was found.”
Restored and remastered, the film features visuals that are both stunning and dynamic, with Elvis’s energetic performances, including his signature karate poses, vividly brought to life. The trailer culminates with Presley passionately singing “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” indicating his enduring influence and legacy.
Neon and Universal Pictures Content Group acquired EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert last October. The documentary will debut in an exclusive one-week IMAX run beginning February 20, before being released in theaters worldwide the following week.
