Barbie Ferreira on Her Latest Projects and Embracing Her Creative Journey After Euphoria
Barbie Ferreira Takes Center Stage with Dual Film Releases
This week marks a significant moment for Barbie Ferreira, who shines in two contrasting roles in new films, showcasing her versatility as an actress.
Ferriera, known for her role in Euphoria, expressed reflections on her career trajectory, stating, “For me, what I wanted to do is act and be able to do different roles… But it wasn’t really letting me show my range.” She added, “What makes me happy is acting and growing my career,” emphasizing her desire for creative fulfillment beyond mainstream popularity.
In her upcoming project, Faces of Death, Ferreira recorded her role in New Orleans in 2023, pondering whether the film—an update of the controversial 1978 mockumentary—would ever be released. “It felt like such a fun, good movie… Are they going to censor us? Are they not going to put us in theaters?” Ferreira shared, relieved that audiences will finally see the film. “This moment is just so satisfying.”
In Mile End Kicks, Ferreira plays Grace, a music critic inspired by director Chandler Levack. “Having a reference point is so essential as an actor,” she remarked about infusing her character with Levack’s real-life experiences. “I got to really bounce ideas off of her, because it is so based off her life.”
Reflecting on her growth since leaving Euphoria, Ferreira noted, “I’m a completely different actress and different person… It’s cool to show me as I grow up.” She mentioned her eagerness to present both Faces of Death and Mile End Kicks, emphasizing that they reflect distinct aspects of her acting skills.
Discussing her experience in the film industry, Ferreira acknowledged the intricate challenges of shooting Faces of Death, especially as it delves into the darker sides of social media. “I spent a lot of time getting in that headspace… Watching clips that were very violent… It’s too easy to see horrible violence online," she explained. Her portrayal of a content moderator sheds light on the normalization of violence in the digital age.
Ferreira shared anecdotes about her collaboration with Charli XCX, who made her acting debut in Mile End Kicks. “It was cool to see her come into my world,” Ferreira said, highlighting the contrast between XCX’s glamorous pop star persona and the indie film environment.
As Ferreira dives deeper into her profession, the shift from a long-term television show to more varied film roles has opened new pathways. “It freed up everything,” she said. “When one door closes, an indie door opens.”
Through her roles in Faces of Death and Mile End Kicks, Barbie Ferreira continues to redefine her career, ready to captivate audiences while embracing her evolution as an artist.
