Badly In Love Returns for Season 2 on Netflix: Here’s What to Expect
Japanese reality television fans are in for more excitement as Netflix has announced the renewal of Badly in Love for a second season. The series has resonated with viewers since its premiere, quickly becoming a sensation in Japan.
The program, which showcases a group of rebellious youth navigating love and conflict, achieved significant popularity after launching earlier this month. It claimed the number one spot in Japan for two consecutive weeks and has also garnered attention in Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan. Furthermore, it reached eighth place on the global top 10 charts for non-English-language series.
Created by producer Megumi, Badly in Love features 11 individuals whose backgrounds are associated with gang culture, violence, and personal struggles. Set in a secluded “academy,” the show explores whether those who have faced turbulent lives can cultivate meaningful relationships.
While the first season was set in an urban environment, the upcoming season will take viewers to a seaside location. The show is hosted by Megumi, rapper AK-69, and comedian Nagano.
Produced by STAFF LaBBi in collaboration with Netflix, the series initially released its first four episodes on December 9, followed by three more episodes on December 16, with the final three episodes airing on December 23.
“I’m truly delighted that Season 2 has been greenlit so quickly. Since the series’ release, it has been incredibly meaningful for all of us to see the yankii culture — something we consider to be ‘ultra-Japan’ — reach not only audiences in Japan but viewers around the world. We will continue to pour our hearts into Season 2 so that audiences can experience even more of the raw charm of yankii who live every moment to the fullest,” Megumi stated.
