Bad Bunny Celebrates Body Positivity at the 2026 Met Gala
Bad Bunny Makes Bold Fashion Statement at 2026 Met Gala
Grammy-winning artist Bad Bunny showcased a striking transformation during the 2026 Met Gala held on May 4. Embracing this year’s "Costume Art" theme, the Puerto Rican musician, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, set the red carpet ablaze with his imaginative appearance.
With the assistance of renowned makeup artist Mike Marino, the 32-year-old musician embodied an aged version of himself, prompting curiosity about the inspiration behind this look. Vogue highlighted a thematic text from the exhibition catalog, which suggests, “Perhaps reflecting our fear of having to face our own mortality, the youth-oriented fashion industry has traditionally ignored the aged body.”
Bad Bunny’s ensemble also drew attention: he donned a custom all-black tuxedo, designed in collaboration with Zara. The oversized bowtie he wore was reminiscent of fashion icon Charles James’ 1947 gown, “Bustle,” a piece housed within the Costume Institute’s permanent collection.
This memorable appearance comes during a notable year for Bad Bunny. In February, he triumphed at the 2026 Grammy Awards, clinching several accolades, including Album of the Year for DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS. Days later, he captivated audiences during the Super Bowl 2026 halftime show, which attracted an average of 128.2 million viewers, narrowly missing the record set by Kendrick Lamar in 2025.
Fashion has always been a significant aspect of Bad Bunny’s personal expression. He stated in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in August 2022, “I’m taking advantage of this moment in my life when I can do whatever I want and wear what I want. I get to live life more authentically.”
Reflecting on his journey, Bad Bunny reminisced about shopping with his mother at local malls, where he gravitated toward pieces in women’s clothing. “They would always fit me so much better,” he noted, underscoring how his early experiences have shaped his bold choices in fashion.
As this year unfolds, Bad Bunny continues to push artistic boundaries, reinforcing his unique identity in both music and fashion.
