Film Premieres at Austin Festival with Dark Romantic Twist
The 40th edition of the Austin, Texas film and TV festival opened with the world premiere of A Safe Distance, a gripping tale that takes a romantic getaway into unsettling territory. The film centers on a couple, Alex, portrayed by Bethany Brown, and her boyfriend Joey, played by Chris McNally. Their trip turns tumultuous when Alex rejects Joey’s marriage proposal, leading to her abandonment in the wilderness.
In the wild, Alex encounters an off-the-grid couple, Matt and Kianna, portrayed by Cody Kearsley and Tandia Mercedes, who initially intrigue her. However, as their troubling history unfolds, Alex finds herself needing to rely on her own instincts for survival.
The film is written by Aidan West, with production led by Nic Altobelli, Aidan West, and Gloria Mercer. Vortex Media has secured the distribution rights, marking a significant addition to this year’s festival lineup.
