Bachelorette Takes a Break: Here’s What to Expect from America’s Funniest Home Videos and The Greatest Average American This Sunday
ABC is strategically adjusting its Sunday night lineup after the network decided to suspend Season 22 of The Bachelorette.
In place of the popular dating show, the Disney-owned network will air repeats of America’s Funniest Home Videos and The Greatest Average American during the 8-10 p.m. time slot. AFHV will kick off the evening at 8 p.m., followed by Nate Bargatze’s gameshow at 9.
Last weekend, a two-hour repeat of American Idol occupied the slot that was previously reserved for The Bachelorette.
On March 19, ABC’s decision to suspend The Bachelorette came in response to a video featuring Taylor Frankie Paul, the season’s bachelorette, throwing a chair at her partner Dakota Mortensen near one of her children.
Disney released a statement explaining, “In light of the newly released video that just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of The Bachelorette at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family.”
Currently, it remains uncertain if Paul’s season will air on ABC or on its streaming platform Hulu. However, Disney’s wording suggests that the possibility has not been entirely ruled out with the inclusion of “at this time” in the statement.
A police investigation involving Paul and Mortensen is ongoing, necessitating resolution before any final decisions regarding the show can be made, prompting ABC’s decision to air repeat episodes.
The situation has also impacted production for Hulu’s Mormon Wives, as filming for Season 5 was paused earlier this month.
