Australian Police Investigate Ruby Rose’s Sexual Assault Allegation Against Katy Perry
Australian authorities have initiated an investigation following allegations from actress Ruby Rose, who has accused pop star Katy Perry of sexual assault in a series of social media posts. Perry has firmly denied the accusations.
Victoria Police announced on Wednesday that detectives are probing a claim of "historical sexual assault" that allegedly took place in Melbourne in 2010. While the police did not specify the names of either Rose or Perry, Rose, known for her role in Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black, stated that she is in contact with the detectives handling the case.
“Police have been told the incident occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne’s CBD [central business district]. As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage,” a police spokesperson said.
Earlier this week, Rose, 40, charged that Perry, 41, sexually assaulted her at the Spice Market nightclub when she was in her 20s. In posts on Meta-owned Threads, Rose detailed an incident where she claimed Perry engaged in inappropriate behavior while she was resting on a friend’s lap.
Perry’s representative described Rose’s allegations as “categorically false” and “dangerous reckless lies.” They further asserted, “Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.”
In her posts, Rose indicated that she would not provide further commentary on the allegations, stating, “As of this afternoon, I have finalized all of my reports. This means I am no longer able to comment, repost, or talk publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved.”
She expressed her emotions regarding the situation, noting, “It’s going to look like I am ignoring everything from supportive messages, to other people’s experiences, but I’m not. This is a standard request from the police and in many ways, quite the relief. I can start the healing process now. And temporary move forward. I love you all so much.”
