Armed Robbery in Sawtelle Results in Loss of $500K Worth of Pokémon Cards
$500,000 in Pokémon Cards Stolen from Los Angeles Card Shop
In a bold robbery that has drawn police attention, nearly half a million dollars worth of Pokémon cards were stolen from RWT Collective in Los Angeles. Authorities are investigating potential links between this incident and a similar burglary in nearby Simi Valley.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the theft occurred as employees were leaving the shop for the night. They were approached by two suspects, one of whom brandished a handgun. The thieves seized a case of Pokémon cards from the trunk of an employee’s car before fleeing the scene.
The value of the stolen cards is estimated at around $500,000.
Over the same weekend, another card theft was reported at Simi Sportscards in Simi Valley. Police there responded around 3 a.m. to find that burglars had gained entry using a chainsaw, destroying display cases in the process. The store’s owner reported that the thieves made off with at least $50,000 in valuable cards.
The LAPD is currently investigating the possibility that the two thefts are connected, highlighting a troubling pattern of card-related crimes in the area.
