Ariana Grande is poised to usher in a new era with her upcoming album, *Petal*. On Friday, May 8, the pop superstar revealed that the lead single from her eighth studio album will be titled “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” which is set for release shortly.
Alongside the track’s black-and-white artwork, featuring a close-up of Grande’s face with her hair cascading over her eyes—mirroring the cover art of *Petal*—the singer expressed her excitement on Instagram, stating, “hate that i made you love me … my first single off of petal.” Grande described the song as “one of my favorite songs i’ll ever write,” revealing that she co-produced it with her frequently collaborating partners, Max Martin and ILYA, whom she referred to as “my favorite collaborators and dearest human beings in the world.”
“i simply cannot wait for it to be yours,” the Grammy winner added.
The new single will drop on May 29, approximately two months prior to the album’s release at the end of July. This forthcoming project follows 2024’s *Eternal Sunshine*, which topped the Billboard 200 and brought forth two No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100: “Yes, And?” and “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love).”
The day before the announcement of “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” Grande shared insights into the new album’s themes via a video, in which she discussed its more daring nature. “It’s a little feral,” she said in the clip. “It’s definitely from a place I’ve been maybe too shy or polite to tap into before. This kind of just feels like, ‘F–k it.’”
