Ariana Grande Encourages Fans to Focus on Kindness Over Appearance Comments
Ariana Grande Addresses Criticism of Her Appearance
Ariana Grande is reiterating her stance against criticism of her appearance, expressing a heartfelt reminder to her followers through social media. On Saturday, November 29, Grande, 32, shared a clip from her interview on "Oui Oui Baguette," writing, “Resharing this from last year as a loving reminder to all,” while addressing her interactions with interviewer Sally.
During the 2024 press tour for the film "Wicked," in which she stars alongside Cynthia Erivo, Grande discussed the impact of public scrutiny on her body image. "I’ve been doing this in front of the public really since I was 16 or 17," she noted. "I’ve heard every version of what’s wrong with me, and then you fix it, and it’s wrong for different reasons. That’s everything from your appearance [when] you’re young and hearing all these kinds of things."
Grande acknowledged the challenges of shielding oneself from pervasive societal comments, citing even seemingly benign remarks from family members. “It’s hard to protect yourself from that noise,” she explained, recalling awkward comments one might encounter at family gatherings. “Those types of comments are uncomfortable and horrible, regardless of the scale."
She further emphasized the troubling nature of the ease with which people comment on others’ looks and personal circumstances. “In today’s society, there’s a comfortability that we shouldn’t have at all, commenting on others’ looks, appearance [and] what they think is going on behind the scenes or health,” she said. "I think that’s really dangerous—for all parties involved."
To counteract negativity, Grande shared her methods of self-affirmation, reminding herself of her beauty while encouraging others to do the same. "I have work to do, I have a life to live, I have friends to love on [and] so much love—and it’s not invited."
Grande’s openness about her battles with public judgment on her appearance extends to her past experiences with cosmetic enhancements. In a September 2023 interview with Vogue, she revealed that she stopped using Botox and lip fillers in 2018. "When you’re 17, you don’t really know that yet,” she reflected, discussing how she used makeup as a means of hiding.
As she progresses through life, Grande expressed a desire to embrace her natural aging. "I want to see my well-earned cry lines and smile lines," she stated. “Aging can be such a beautiful thing.” In January, she mentioned to Entertainment Tonight that she remains "clean" from injectables, emphasizing the importance of transparency in her role as a beauty founder.
Ariana Grande’s candid reflections resonate with many, reinforcing the need for compassion and understanding amid society’s often harsh scrutiny of individual appearances.
