Apple Original Films Comedy ‘The Dink’ Featuring Jake Johnson and Mary Steenburgen Set to Premiere in July
Apple Original Films Announces Premiere Date for ‘The Dink’
Apple Original Films has officially set July 24 as the global premiere date for its upcoming comedy, The Dink. The film will be available on the Apple TV platform and features a star-studded cast, including Jake Johnson, Mary Steenburgen, Ed Harris, former tennis star Andy Roddick, Patton Oswalt, Chloe Fineman, Chris Parnell, Aaron Chen, and Ben Stiller.
The Dink centers on Dusty Boyd, a once-promising tennis prodigy portrayed by Johnson. Now relegated to coaching unruly children at his father Chuck’s suburban country club, Dusty wrestles with the desire for his father’s approval. In a bid to support Chuck’s disdain for the burgeoning trend of pickleball at the club, Dusty’s world is turned upside down when he reinjures himself, forcing him to explore the very sport he initially scorned as part of his rehabilitation.
A chance encounter with Candace, played by Steenburgen, sparks newfound enjoyment in pickleball for Dusty. However, he soon finds himself at a crossroads, confronting his past failures in athletics, including his rivalry with childhood nemesis Andy Roddick. This unexpected journey leads Dusty into a fierce contest that will determine not only the future of the club but also his father’s affection and his own identity.
Directed by Josh Greenbaum, The Dink is produced by Stiller and John Lesher for Red Hour Films, alongside Rob Paris and Mike Witherill for Rivulet Entertainment. Johnson also takes on a producing role. The screenplay was penned by Sean Clements, with executive production credits going to Rick Steele, Clements, Greenbaum, Joe Hardesty, Jonathan McCoy, and Daniel Crosser.
