Anne Hathaway Voices Concerns About Thin Models on the Set of ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’
Anne Hathaway played a pivotal role in the casting decisions for “The Devil Wears Prada 2.”
Meryl Streep, who reprises her role as Miranda Priestly in the sequel, discussed the film’s production during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. While filming a Dolce & Gabbana fashion show at Milan Fashion Week, both actresses noticed the exceptionally slim appearance of the models. Streep remarked, “We were struck by how not only beautiful and young … but alarmingly thin the models were.”
Streep further elaborated, saying, “I thought that all had been addressed years ago. Annie clocked it too, and she made a beeline to the producers about it, securing promises that the models in the show we were putting together for our film would not be so skeletal!” She commended Hathaway, stating, “She’s a stand-up girl.”
Hathaway, appearing on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar, discussed how the sequel differs from the original. The film is set to be released on May 1, marking 20 years since the debut of the first installment. She noted that the primary distinction is that the sequel was created “in view.”
“The first movie was such an unknown quantity,” Hathaway explained. “Fashion brands were initially hesitant to get on board and lend clothes.”
As the release date approaches, the film faces considerable anticipation. Hathaway pointed out that designers are vying to showcase their creations, a notable difference from the prior film, where fashion houses were cautious about participation.
Streep recounted the fervent fan attention that surrounded the production, admitting, “Annie kept her cool, but I was unnerved.” Hathaway did experience a moment of vulnerability during filming when she accidentally fell on set while being photographed. She recalled, “I was aware that I was falling, I was aware that I was being photographed, and I was also aware that, like, so many people on the crew, their hearts had just jumped up into their throat, so I needed to get up quickly to make sure they knew I was okay.” In a humorous aftermath, she joked to director David Frankel, “Oh no. I’m news.”
