Brazil and Colombia are set to unite on the musical front.
On Monday, April 6, Anitta and Shakira announced their first-ever collaboration, titled “Choka Choka,” through an Instagram post. The artwork features both South American superstars depicted on tarot cards, each adorned with a large feather.
Anitta expressed her enthusiasm in the caption, writing in Spanish, “You have no idea how happy I am to announce this collaboration from my album EQUILIBRIVM.
Shakira also shared her excitement, reposting the album cover on her Instagram Story and writing in Portuguese that she was feeling emotional and indicating that “they don’t know the music we have together.” In a subsequent video, she labeled the song “incredible” and suggested that fans will love it.
“Choka Choka” is set to be released on Thursday as the second single from Anitta’s upcoming album EQUILIBRIVM, which will drop the following Friday, April 16. The album’s lead single, “Pinterest,” debuted last month. EQUILIBRIVM marks Anitta’s seventh studio album. Since her debut in 2013, she has emerged as a significant force in Brazilian music. Her viral reggaetón track “Envolver” reached No. 3 on the Hot Latin Songs chart and marked her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100. Anitta has performed at prominent music festivals including Coachella and Lollapalooza Paris, as well as the Billboard Latin Women in Music event.
This Saturday, Anitta will make her debut on Saturday Night Live. With “Choka Choka” releasing just two days prior, viewers may speculate whether Anitta will invite Shakira to share the stage for a live performance.
