Anaheim Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested
A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident that left a 12-year-old boy injured in Anaheim.
Details of the Incident
Jonathan Diaz, 29, surrendered to authorities on Wednesday after reportedly fleeing the scene of the crash that occurred on Sunday evening. According to Anaheim Police, Diaz allegedly ran a stop sign and collided with the boy, who was riding an e-bike. The incident took place around 8:45 p.m. at the intersection of Topeka and North streets.
The 12-year-old boy, identified only as Jason, sustained a concussion and a broken leg due to the accident. He has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
Police sergeant Matt Sutter noted that both the driver and the boy disregarded stop signs at the intersection. Following the collision, the vehicle, a red Honda, crashed into several parked cars about a block away. Witnesses reported seeing at least three individuals flee the scene on foot.
Ongoing Investigations
The car involved was impounded for analysis, and investigators have found indications that driving under the influence may have been a contributing factor in the crash. Diaz has been booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, and the case remains under investigation.
