Amy Schumer Shares Her Journey to a Healthier Weight After GLP-1 Treatment
Amy Schumer recently showcased her body transformation while turning a staircase into a personal runway. On Saturday, November 29, the 44-year-old actress shared a series of images on Instagram, where she sported a vibrant yellow minidress adorned with bows and ruffles, pairing it with black sling-back heels.
In one of the playful images, Schumer was photo-bombed by Gene David, her son with husband Chris Fischer, whom they welcomed in 2019, a year after their marriage. Schumer captioned the post, “Trying to go to the party but someone won’t go to bed @gitabass takin pics and painting me with @tousledbyjae dress by @maisonvalentino thanks @luxury_checkins skin as always by @georgialouisesk.”
Schumer has been open about her experience with various weight-loss medications. In March, she discussed her use of Mounjaro, a GLP-1 drug similar to Ozempic. Although designed for diabetes management, Mounjaro may result in side effects such as nausea and diarrhea, according to WebMD. “Three years ago, I tried Wegovy,” Schumer noted in an Instagram video. “I was puking, I couldn’t handle it. I don’t know if they’ve changed the formula, whatever. But anyway, I went on this Telehealth meeting with Midi Health, and it was cheap. I wanted to try it myself because I wanted to recommend it to my friends who are nurses and teachers.”
Midi Health specializes in treatment for menopause and perimenopause. Schumer elaborated, “They put me on estrogen and progesterone because I realized I was in perimenopause and my symptoms from being perimenopause have disappeared. My hair is fuller, my skin is better, I have more energy, I want to get down more, if you know what I mean. I’m talking about sex. So that’s been great and Mounjaro’s been great.”
She added that the medication is “not covered by insurance unless you have diabetes or like severe obesity, which most of the internet thinks I have.” Schumer concluded, “But I’m having a really good experience with it and I wanted to keep it real with you about that. Midi Health. I liked it so much and I had such a good experience [that] I invested in the company.”
Recently, Schumer deleted several pre-weight-loss photos from her social media. Earlier this month, she addressed this decision, clarifying that she “didn’t delete my old photos because they were pre me losing weight.”
“I’m proud of how I’ve looked always,” she said. “I have been working to be pain-free and I finally am. My endometriosis is better. My back is healing. I no longer have Cushing syndrome so my face went back to normal. I am grateful to be strong and healthy especially for my son.”
Schumer stressed that “your Instagram is not your identity” but a “curation of what you want the world to see,” expressing that it is “fun” to share her feelings of strength and beauty with her followers. She noted, “I didn’t purposely go on a ‘weight loss journey’—that’s a fine thing to go on. But my focus has been on health. I’m sure my weight will always fluctuate. I’m a perimenopausal woman on HRT meds. Wishing you strength and self-love on whatever path you’re on as long as it’s kind and respectful to all people.”
