Amy Schumer’s prominent friends have expressed their support as the comedian navigates the recent end of her marriage.
On December 12, the 44-year-old announced via Instagram that she and Chris Fischer, with whom she shares a six-year-old son, Gene David, are getting a divorce after seven years of marriage.
In her post, Schumer wrote, “Blah blah blah Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years. We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son.”
She went on to request privacy during this time, humorously noting that their decision did not stem from any superficial reasons. “Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever,” she concluded.
Many of Schumer’s celebrity friends, including Sharon Stone, Olivia Munn, Sophia Bush, and Andy Cohen, quickly showed their support in the comments section.
Stone expressed her support with clapping emojis, while Munn joined others in posting red heart emojis. Bush, who finalized her divorce earlier this year, offered a heartfelt message: “It’s so damn hard without having it be hard for the world to see… so when the world sees I’ll just say be extra gentle with yourself. All love.”
Gayle King praised Schumer for her humor and grace in handling the announcement, remarking, “Only YOU could make THIS announcement w/humor & love …. Wishing you BOTH the very best.”
A source close to Schumer and Fischer, who married in February 2018, remarked, “There’s nothing ugly. It’s a cohesive split. They’ve just been finalizing a few things.”
Prior to their announcement, speculation about their relationship had arisen. However, a source had indicated just weeks earlier that both were still committed to their marriage. On December 1, Schumer shared an Instagram update, emphasizing that any marital issues were unrelated to concerns about weight loss or autism, stating, “Fingers crossed we make it through. He’s the best.”
