Angel Studios Secures Global Distribution Rights for Salt & Honey
Angel Studios has acquired the global distribution rights to Salt & Honey, the latest feature film directed by Amy Redford, daughter of the legendary actor and filmmaker Robert Redford.
Redford, known for her previous work on What Comes Around, will helm the film, which features a cast that includes Anna Camp from Scream 7, Justin Chatwin of War of the Worlds, and Jesse Garcia, who appeared in Flamin’ Hot. The screenplay was penned by Skye Emerson, a Sundance Institute Screenwriting Fellow and Grand Prize winner of the ISA Emerging Screenwriters Competition. Production is set to commence this month in Helper, Utah, with Lauren Call and Annie Quan serving as producers.
The film centers on Riley Riggs, a young girl growing up in a small Utah town, who dreams of becoming a geoscientist like her father, Garland. In pursuit of her aspirations, she and her best friend, Oni, aim to win a local baking competition, which Riley believes could be a stepping stone toward her dreams. However, an unforeseen accident threatens to disrupt her plans, adding layers of challenge to her journey.
Salt & Honey marks Redford’s third feature film as a director. She made her directorial debut with The Guitar in 2008, which premiered at Sundance, followed by What Comes Around in 2022, a thriller that debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Brandon Purdie, Executive Vice President and Head of Theatrical at Angel Studios, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Redford. "Amy is extraordinarily talented and brings tremendous heart, legacy, and authenticity to this film. We’re looking forward to sharing this Utah-rooted story with audiences around the world,” he stated. “Salt & Honey is a powerful tale of resilience, family, and the strength found in small communities.”
Angel Studios recently announced its upcoming theatrical releases, which include Andy Serkis’ adaptation of Animal Farm and Young Washington, featuring a star-studded cast including Sir Ben Kingsley, Kelsey Grammer, Mary-Louise Parker, and William Franklyn-Miller. The company reported that it has surpassed 2.2 million paying members in its Angel Guild, a grassroots program allowing members to act as virtual co-producers and have a say in project selection.
