American Red Cross Urges Donations as Blood Supplies Run Low
American Red Cross Seeks Blood Donations Amid Supply Shortage
The American Red Cross is urgently calling for blood donations nationwide following significant disruptions in transportation caused by severe late-winter storms. The organization emphasized the importance of maintaining a steady blood supply as the threat of spring weather looms.
"Some parts of the nation are still clearing snow, but the threat of severe spring weather is already growing," noted a statement from the Red Cross. "Now is the time to book a blood or platelet donation appointment to help prevent any future disruption to patient care."
To encourage donations, individuals who give blood, platelets, or plasma this month will receive a $15 Amazon gift card via email. Additionally, those making successful donations will also receive A1C testing during March.
The Red Cross highlights that all blood types are essential to ensure a reliable supply for patients. Donors must present a blood donor card, a driver’s license, or two other forms of identification at check-in. Eligibility requirements include being at least 17 years old in most states (or 16 with parental consent where permitted), weighing a minimum of 110 pounds, and being in generally good health.
