Amanda Brugel and Wes Hall Join The Legacy Lounge Premiering on CBC
Canadian actress Amanda Brugel, known for her roles in Dark Matter and The Handmaid’s Tale, along with Wes Hall, a prominent investor from Dragon’s Den Canada, will appear in the upcoming series The Legacy Lounge. This show, produced in collaboration with Shamier Anderson and Stephan James, is set to debut on CBC.
Brugel and Hall were chosen as part of the new class of honorees for Anderson and James’ Black Academy. The four-part series also features viral TikTok dance trio Basement Gang, comprising Nathaniel James, Kadeem Hemmings, and Nicholas McDonald, alongside multi-platinum artist Fefe Dobson.
The episodes aim to celebrate the achievements of Black Canadian figures whose contributions have significantly impacted their industries and communities. As Anderson and James state, these honorees have “left a lasting mark on their field, culture and community.”
Brugel has made a name for herself as both an actress and producer, with appearances in Dark Matter on Apple TV and Hulu’s Handmaid’s Tale, as well as roles in series such as The Driver. Hall’s credentials include being the founder and CEO of Kingsdale Advisors, the Executive Chairman and founder of WeShall Investments, and the founder of the BlackNorth Initiative.
The series will premiere on CBC Gem tomorrow, January 30, with all four episodes available for viewers. Additionally, the series will be featured on CBC’s YouTube channel in conjunction with Black History Month, beginning February 2, and will have a linear run on CBC starting February 27 at 7:30 p.m. local time.
Notable guest appearances will include Kevin “k-os” Brereton and Christian Thompson in the episode celebrating Fefe Dobson, as well as Barb Godfrey and Weyni Mengesha, who received the Trailblazer Award from The Black Academy in Brugel’s episode. Walied Soliman and filmmaker Clement Virgo will contribute to Hall’s episode, while Adrian Holmes, host of the 2024 Legacy Awards, will appear in the Basement Gang episode. The show will also feature testimonials from notable figures such as Willow Smith, Ann Merriam, O-T Fagbenle, and Andrew “King Bach” Bachelor.
Filmed at Toronto’s King & Bay Bespoke Solutions, The Legacy Lounge is co-created and executive produced by Anderson and Golden Globe nominee James, with Jesse Murphy and Andrew Barnsley also serving as executive producers. Production oversight is provided by Tse Daniel and Shelby Bronstine under the auspices of Bay Mills Studios, The Black Academy, and Project10 Productions, the latter known for the CBC comedy series Son of a Critch.
For CBC, Sally Catto serves as General Manager of Entertainment, Factual & Sports, with Jennifer Dettman as Executive Director of Unscripted Content and Nic Meloney as Executive in Charge of Production for Unscripted Content.
