Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges, Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, and Trey Parker Come Together for Illumination & Universal’s New Film ‘Minions & Monsters’
Oscar Winners Join Cast of Upcoming Film ‘Minions & Monsters’
Oscar-winning actors Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, and Jeff Bridges will join Zoey Deutch, along with Oscar nominees Jesse Eisenberg and Trey Parker, in the highly anticipated film Minions & Monsters, produced by Illumination and Universal Pictures. The movie is set to be released in theaters on July 1.
The cast also features Saturday Night Live alum Bobby Moynihan and Phil LaMarr, known for his work in Futurama and King of the Hill.
Minions & Monsters narrates the “rambunctious, ridiculous, and totally true story” of the Minions, led by Dick, as they conquer Hollywood and find fame, only to face the havoc they inadvertently unleash on the world. The Minions then unite to save the planet from the chaos they created.
Academy Award nominee Pierre Coffin, who directed the first three Despicable Me films and the original Minions, returns as the director for this installment. Coffin has also lent his voice to the Minions since their cinematic debut in 2010.
The screenplay is penned by Brian Lynch, who worked on both Minions and The Secret Life of Pets, alongside Coffin. The film is produced by Illumination’s founder and CEO Chris Meledandri, who has been nominated for an Academy Award, and Bill Ryan, who served as executive producer on The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Lynch is also an executive producer on the project.
“The Minions have always had a wonderfully subversive spirit, and Minions & Monsters delivers a full dose of irreverence and comedic mayhem,” Meledandri stated. “Pierre and his Illumination team have brought a level of artistry to the film that has thrilled me throughout production. The voice cast is filled with exceptional talent. The film’s story is unexpected and delightful, and perhaps the most lovely surprise is how Minions & Monsters serves to honor cinema, its origins, and the comedians who inspired these adorable little characters.”
Since their creation 15 years ago, the Minions have propelled the Despicable Me and Minions franchises to a staggering global box office total exceeding $5.6 billion. The most recent Minions film, Minions: The Rise of Gru, released in 2022, achieved nearly $1 billion in worldwide earnings.
