Alexander Ludwig and Emma Roberts Join Forces in Indie Drama ‘Hal’ by Mark Williams of Zero Gravity
Alexander Ludwig and Emma Roberts to Star in ‘Hal,’ a Film Inspired by the Founding of Convoy of Hope
Actors Alexander Ludwig, known for his role in Vikings, and Emma Roberts, recognized for The Blackcoat’s Daughter, have officially joined the cast of Hal, a feature drama that explores the origins of the humanitarian organization Convoy of Hope.
Directed by Mark Williams, acclaimed for his work on Ozark and The Accountant, the screenplay is penned by Mark Edwin Robinson. The film centers on Hal Donaldson, a journalist whose challenging upbringing shapes his perspective and empowers him to use his voice as a tool for change. His life takes a pivotal turn when he meets Doree, a talented musician, whose support becomes crucial as he navigates the tumultuous path of his career.
As Hal confronts the harsh realities of crisis and inequality, the distinction between observation and action increasingly diminishes. He finds himself compelled to take a stand beyond storytelling, ultimately leading to the establishment of Convoy of Hope.
Since its founding in 1994, Convoy of Hope has made a significant impact by distributing hundreds of millions of meals and providing clean water to countless individuals. Operating in numerous countries, the organization is well-regarded for its extensive disaster relief efforts and long-term community development initiatives.
Production of Hal is set to commence in Atlanta on February 9.
Ludwig is poised for a busy year, following his roles in the Bad Boys franchise and more recently casting in the upcoming fourth season of HBO’s The White Lotus, which is set in France. He is also featured in Nick Cassavetes’ film Marked Men and has several projects lined up, including Netflix’s Unabom, a thriller based on Ted Kaczynski, and Killing Castro, alongside Al Pacino.
Similarly, Roberts is slated to appear in the 13th season of FX’s American Horror Story, alongside the psychological thriller The Technique and the romantic comedy Marriage Material. In addition, she serves as a producer on Hulu’s Tell Me Lies.
Mark Williams, a principal at Zero Gravity, co-created Ozark with Bill Dubuque and has directed various films, including A Family Man and the action thrillers Honest Thief and Blacklight. Zero Gravity is also noted for producing acclaimed works such as Beasts of No Nation and Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker.
Writer Mark Edwin Robinson is represented by Zero Gravity Management as well as Surpin, Mayersohn & Coghill.
