Aimee Lou Wood Shares Her Thoughts on the ‘SNL’ Teeth Sketch Before Hosting ‘SNL UK’
Aimee Lou Wood, known for her roles in Sex Education and White Lotus, is set to host Saturday Night Live UK this weekend, directly addressing a contentious sketch from a previous SNL episode that sparked significant backlash.
In a promotional video for the show, Wood humorously critiques a 2025 sketch, which she previously labeled as “mean and unfunny.” The skit featured a parody of White Lotus Season 3 and targeted her character, Chelsea, portrayed by Sarah Sherman, who appeared with exaggerated buck teeth.
In the promo for SNL UK, Wood expresses her excitement, saying, “Oh my God, I’m so excited. I cannot wait to get started, you know, especially after the whole thing in America with the teeth. It’s gonna feel good to just wipe the slate clean.”
When she notices the cast members covering their mouths, Wood inquisitively asks, “Wait, why are you all covering your mouths?” Ayoade Bamgboye responds, “Just doing a big yawn.”
Furthering the banter, Wood questions, “Have you guys got fake teeth in? Wow, wow. This is all one big set up to humiliate me then. I thought SNL UK would be different, but I was wrong.”
In a twist, Bamgboye clarifies, “Aimee wait. We all grew big glorious moustaches,” revealing their facial hair after the cast removes their hands. Celeste Dring adds, “We don’t want you to feel left out, we’re sorry.”
Wood’s candid remarks about the earlier SNL sketch gained traction last year, and she later affirmed that she stood by her decision to speak out. In a statement to BBC News, she reflected, “I don’t regret saying it because it was breaking a pattern, which is what I would usually do – what I did when I was younger and got bullied.”
She concluded, “No matter what chaos came from it, I’m still happy for me and my personal journey that I said something.”
