Aimee Carrero and Jai Courtney Join Netflix Movie Protecting Jared with Director Ruben Fleischer

Production Begins on Jason Momoa and Andy Samberg’s Protecting Jared in Oahu

The highly anticipated Netflix film Protecting Jared, starring Jason Momoa and Andy Samberg, is officially in production in Oahu. Joining the cast are Aimee Carrero, known for her roles in Your Friends and Neighbors and The Menu, and Jai Courtney, recognized for American Primeval and War Machine.

Ruben Fleischer has been announced as the film’s director. With an extensive resume, Fleischer has previously directed Zombieland (2009), Venom (2018), and the most recent installment of Now You See Me. His television credits include directing episodes for notable series like NBC’s Superstore and ABC’s The Good Doctor.

Fleischer will work from a script crafted by Emmy-nominated writers Rob Klein and John Solomon, both of whom have a long-standing collaboration on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, where they worked for 16 years. Solomon’s credits also include MacGruber, The Last Man on Earth, and A.P. Bio, all of which Klein contributed to as well.

While details regarding the film are scarce, it has been confirmed that Protecting Jared will feature an action-comedy set in Hawaii. Character names and descriptions for Carrero and Courtney remain undisclosed.

The production is being backed by Samberg’s Party Over Here and Momoa’s On The Roam.

In upcoming roles, Jai Courtney will appear in Paramount+’s The Dutton Ranch, a spin-off of the blockbuster series Yellowstone, and has recently starred in the Netflix limited series American Primeval. His past work includes Prime Video’s The Terminal List and War Machine, which debuted on the streaming platform and achieved a spot in its Top 10.

Aimee Carrero is anticipated to begin filming the third season of Apple’s popular series Your Friends and Neighbors, where she portrays Elena Benavides. She is also currently working on the Netflix comedy film One Attempt Remaining, featuring a star-studded cast that includes Jennifer Garner, John Cena, and Kate McKinnon. Carrero’s impressive portfolio includes roles in The Menu, Netflix’s Maid, and the Freeform series Young & Hungry, among others. Notably, she has voiced Disney’s first Latina princess in Elena of Avalor and She-Ra in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.
