Adrian Kempe Shines with Two Goals as Kings Edge Past Canucks to Reclaim Playoff Position
Kings Secure Playoff Spot with Victory Over Canucks
In a decisive matchup at Crypto.com Arena, the Los Angeles Kings triumphed over the Vancouver Canucks with a score of 4-1, propelling the team into a playoff position. Adrian Kempe shone with two goals, while Joel Armia and Trevor Moore added to the scoreline. Goalie Anton Forsberg made 24 saves, marking the Kings’ third consecutive victory and placing them one point ahead of the Nashville Predators for the second Western Conference wild card, with a game in hand.
The Kings entered the game with a firm grasp on their postseason prospects, bolstered by the Predators’ 4-1 loss to Utah on the same night. This result provided the Kings with vital breathing room as the regular season nears its conclusion.
Nikita Tolopilo recorded 22 saves for the Canucks, who have struggled, losing ten of their last eleven games. Marcus Pettersson managed to score for Vancouver but could not break through the Kings’ defense consistently.
The Kings started strong, with Kempe finding the net just 1:29 into the game, capitalizing on a centering pass from Brandt Clarke. Although Pettersson equalized later in the first period, Armia swiftly reclaimed the lead for Los Angeles less than two minutes later. Kempe extended the advantage to 3-1 by redirecting a slap shot from Joel Edmundson just before the second period came to a close.
During the Kings’ five-game point streak, Kempe has been instrumental, contributing seven goals and two assists, including three multi-goal games. Forsberg’s recent performance has also been a key factor in the team’s success, as he has secured three straight wins while allowing only four goals in that span.
The Kings, having previously set an NHL record for the most games decided beyond regulation, ensured a more straightforward victory this time, with Moore’s goal midway through the third period eliminating any chances of extra hockey.
Next, the Kings will take on the Edmonton Oilers at Crypto.com Arena on Saturday.
