A24 Secures Worldwide Rights to Jordan Firstman’s Cannes Hit ‘Club Kid’
A24 has secured the rights to Jordan Firstman’s film Club Kid, which premiered to acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival’s Debussy Theater last Friday. The acquisition followed a competitive bidding process, underscoring the film’s popularity among audiences and critics during the festival’s opening weekend.
This agreement marks a significant moment at Cannes, arriving shortly after Amazon acquired the thriller Pumping Black, featuring Jonathan Bailey and Natalie Portman. The emerging deals reflect a shifting landscape as studios actively pursue various projects at the festival.
Club Kid, written, directed by, and starring Firstman, tells the story of a washed-up party promoter who must reassess his life after suddenly becoming responsible for his 10-year-old son.
During its notable seven-minute ovation at Cannes, lead actress Cara Delevingne was visibly emotional. Firstman celebrated the moment by lifting co-star Reggie Absolom, who portrays his son in the film, igniting a chant in his honor. The cast also includes Diego Calva, known for Babylon and On Swift Horses, and Eldar Isgandarov.
The film boasts impressive production credentials, with Academy Award-winner Alex Coco, known for Anora, and Galen Core of Lurker as producers. Ryan Heller and Michael Bloom from Topic Studios also contributed, with financing support from Topic and co-financer Stay Gold.
Shot on 35mm film by Emmy-winning Director of Photography Adam Newport-Berra, which adds a distinctive look to the project, the film was launched in Cannes with the assistance of Charades International.
The deal for Club Kid was negotiated by UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers. Firstman, along with several key cast members, is represented by a range of industry professionals from various talent agencies, ensuring robust support for the film’s release.
