A Wild Crypto Journey Becomes a Comedy Series from Viv Ford and Roman Coppola’s Decentralized Pictures
San Francisco’s Crypto Culture Inspires New Series
A remarkable story centered on a group of cryptocurrency investors in San Francisco has been developed into a six-part series titled The Crypto Castle.
Viv Ford, a comedian who previously resided in a hacker house in the Bay Area, gained attention when her living situation was featured in a New York Times article titled “Everyone Is Getting Hilariously Rich and You’re Not.”
Now, Ford’s unexpected journey is being transformed into a digital series. In 2015, she inadvertently moved into a San Francisco hacker house populated by four crypto enthusiasts, despite having little knowledge of the cryptocurrency world. At that time, Bitcoin was valued at $250, and the house had just one bathroom. As the cryptocurrency began to surge, Ford found herself immersed in a chaotic, male-dominated environment filled with dynamic personalities and fervent ideological debates. What initially seemed like a ludicrous living arrangement gradually drew her deeper into a culture she once considered bizarre.
Ford took on multiple roles in this project—creating, writing, directing, and producing the series. The Crypto Castle will debut in six installments, each running ten minutes, on YouTube. Alongside her, Dominique Salerno is producing, while Jeremy Gardner, who was spotlighted in the New York Times article, serves as executive producer with Leo Matchett from Roman Coppola’s Decentralized Pictures.
The cast also features Ethaniel Burk, Aakash Kesavarapu, Richard Templeton, Nate Wise, and Isabelle McCalla.
