A Charming 1920s West Hollywood Home Finds a New Life in Altadena
Historic 1920s Home Relocated to Altadena for Fire Family
A historic home from the 1920s has been rescued from demolition in West Hollywood, finding a new purpose as a residence for a family who lost their home in the Eaton Fire. The house was relocated to Altadena as part of the Historic House Relocation Project, completing the four-hour journey overnight.
The relocation process began Thursday night, when crews lifted the final components of the home onto a truck, escorted by the California Highway Patrol. The journey took the structure through the vibrant streets of West Hollywood and downtown Los Angeles, where drone footage captured its path past landmarks such as the Regent Theater and LA City Hall.
According to Morgan Sykes Jaybush from Omgivning Architects, the family is expected to move into their new home by summer. He estimates the renovation will take about five months to complete, providing a much-needed solution for the displaced family.
Post-relocation, the home will undergo restoration and rehabilitation to ensure it meets modern living standards while preserving its 1920s charm and unique architectural details. Omgivning Architects noted that this marks the third house they have moved, with plans for six more relocations in the pipeline.
