A Bear Visits a Santa Clarita Home Caught on Video
Black Bear Visits Santa Clarita Family’s Home
A family in Santa Clarita experienced an unexpected encounter with wildlife on Friday when a large black bear wandered into their front yard, as captured by their Ring doorbell camera. The sighting occurred just after 9 a.m. in the Canyon Country neighborhood.
Initially, the Hooker family mistook the doorbell notification for a package delivery. "I thought it was like a joke or like AI or something," said Addy, the daughter of the household. Earlier that day, her mother had jokingly expressed a wish for the bear to visit their home, a sentiment that quickly turned into reality.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported receiving several calls about bear sightings throughout the day, but fortunately, no injuries have been noted. State biologists from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife indicated that they would be monitoring the bear, which was identified on camera as wearing a tag and tracking collar.
This incident marks the latest in a series of bear sightings in the foothills of the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys over recent weeks. On May 3, another bear prompted the evacuation of the Hansen Dam recreation area, and subsequently, it was tranquilized and relocated after being spotted in Pacoima the following day.
It’s unclear whether that bear was the same one observed just a day earlier in Sunland, where it was seen rummaging through trash cans. Earlier in April, a bear cub gained attention when it escaped from a storm drain in Monrovia, reuniting with its mother and sibling shortly after. Additionally, another bear was filmed charging at a hiker on the Mt. Wilson Trail in mid-April.
As these bear sightings continue to emerge, local authorities remain vigilant in monitoring their activities to ensure community safety.
