The Survivor community is mourning the tragic loss of 17 former contestants who have passed away since the CBS series began airing in May 2000. Over its 49 seasons, Survivor has featured 751 participants, fostering a close bond among viewers and contestants alike, making each loss feel deeply personal.
Since the show’s inception, tributes have poured in from fans, friends, and fellow alumni as they remember the lives and legacies of these individuals. Below is a look back at some of them.
Jane Bright

Jane Bright, who placed sixth in Survivor: Nicaragua and won the Spirit Fan Favorite audience prize, died at age 71 in her North Carolina home. Her daughter announced her passing via Facebook on May 15, 2025. Jeff Probst, the show’s host, highlighted her adventurous spirit, stating, “Jane embodied the spirit of Survivor and leaves a legacy that I hope will continue to inspire others.”
Kim Johnson

Sonja Christopher
