A heartfelt moment unfolded at a recent concert in Australia, where rapper Kendrick Lamar paused his performance to sing “Happy Birthday” to a young fan, ultimately gifting her a unique present she cherishes deeply.
In an interview with ABC News Australia, 9-year-old Kalina Fowler recounted the memorable experience at the Spilt Milk festival in Canberra. “I was yelling out, ‘It’s my birthday, it’s my birthday,’ and then Kendrick saw me yelling, so he stopped in the middle of the song,” she said. “It was the funnest time ever — my first ever concert.”
Videos from the performance capture Lamar singling out Fowler, who was perched on her grandfather’s shoulders. He addressed the crowd, saying, “On the count of three, we’re gonna sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Kalina.”
As thousands joined in singing, Fowler was moved to tears. After the performance, Lamar signed a pgLang hat and presented it to the birthday girl, declaring, “She was official from the start, but now she’s super-duper official.”
Reflecting on the special gift, Fowler shared with ABC News, “People want my hat so bad, they tried to give money to me. This hat is really priceless, so I’m going to keep it for the rest of my life. I won’t let nobody touch it.”
Lamar’s performance at the Spilt Milk festival caps off an impressive year for the artist, who headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show and secured five Grammy wins in February. Following a record-breaking Grand National Stadium Tour alongside SZA, he received nine new nominations from the Recording Academy — the most of any nominee — ahead of the 2026 Grammy ceremony and achieved the second-highest hit on the year-end Billboard Hot 100 with “Luther.”
Fowler’s unforgettable moment with Lamar highlights the ongoing connection between artists and their fans, leaving lasting memories that resonate well beyond the concert stage.
