New Line and Warner Bros. Animation Announce Directors for Upcoming ‘Hello Kitty’ Movie
Hello Kitty to Make Hollywood Debut in New Line Cinema Feature Film
New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation have announced that the much-loved character Hello Kitty will be featured in an upcoming animated film, set to hit theaters on July 21, 2028. Directed by David Derrick Jr. and John Aoshima, this film marks Hello Kitty’s first significant theatrical outing in Hollywood.
Beau Flynn is producing the project, with Shelby Thomas overseeing the production on behalf of FlynnPictureCo. Recently, Ramsay Naito joined the team, adding to the film’s creative leadership.
The film will follow Hello Kitty and her companions on a cinematic adventure intended to entertain audiences of all ages. As one of the world’s most recognized characters, Hello Kitty has made her mark since she was introduced in 1974, with approximately 50,000 types of merchandise sold annually across over 130 countries and regions.
The screenplay is currently being written by Jeff Chan, with contributions from previous drafts by notable writers including Dana Fox, Katie Dippold, Adam Sztykiel, Jenny Jaffe, Lindsey Beer, and Tamara Becher-Wilkinson, based on a treatment by Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon.
Both Derrick Jr. and Aoshima have established relationships with Warner Bros. Pictures Animation. Derrick Jr. is known for his work on the popular Disney film Moana 2, while Aoshima has garnered recognition for his contributions to Ultraman: Rising.
As anticipation builds for this project, Hello Kitty fans are eager to see how the character’s charming persona translates to the big screen.
