Fontana’s Vision for Breathing New Life into the Forge District Downtown
Construction Begins on Revitalization Project in Downtown Fontana
Residents of Fontana are abuzz with excitement as construction kicks off on a new initiative aimed at revitalizing the downtown area. The Forge District project, in development for several years, is set to feature a multi-level complex that will include businesses, housing units, and parking facilities.
City officials believe the project will not only generate new jobs and revenue but also represent the first step toward redefining downtown Fontana. “It’s just amazing and we’re all very excited,” said Mayor Acquanetta Warren in a video shared on social media, highlighting the project’s early progress. “It’s going to be housing and entertainment. The Forge District is coming together!”
According to city plans, the complex is expected to provide 300 housing units along with commercial and parking spaces on Sierra Avenue and Arrow Boulevard, with completion anticipated within the next two years.
City Councilmember Phillip Cothran emphasized the importance of the project, stating, “Downtown Fontana — we are changing it and revitalizing it. We’re putting a lot of emphasis on turning back to our core Fontana, back to where we started.” This revitalization effort addresses past challenges in the downtown area, including a lack of parking and vacant storefronts that have hindered traffic and economic growth.
To further support this transformation, the city is committing over $100 million to downtown improvements, including plans for a new civic center and city hall. “We are working on a new circulation plan, so eventually, Sierra Avenue between Arrow and the railroad tracks will no longer be drivable for cars; that way, people can actually walk and see businesses in our downtown,” Cothran explained.
As the Forge District takes shape, city officials anticipate it will create job opportunities and stimulate economic activity, particularly for young entrepreneurs. Danielle Holley, Executive Director of the Fontana Chamber of Commerce, expressed hope for the project’s impact on local business initiatives. “I’m hoping, especially on the business side of things, that we can spark some ideas within our young entrepreneurs. There are a lot of young business owners and future business owners that might now see that opportunity and think, ‘Hey, I’ve always wanted to start a business,’” she noted.
The city views this revitalization as a renaissance for downtown Fontana, signaling a bright future for the area.
