Adam Driver Responds to Lena Dunham’s Claims at Cannes Press Conference
At a press conference for the film Paper Tiger during the Cannes Film Festival, actor Adam Driver addressed recent comments made by Lena Dunham in her memoir Famesick. His brief response dismissed the accusations.
“I have no comment on any of that. I’m saving it all for my book,” the two-time Oscar nominee stated.
In her memoir, Dunham described Driver as “verbally aggressive” and recalled an incident where he "hurled a chair at the wall next to me." The two co-starred in HBO’s Girls, where Driver’s character often exhibited abusive behavior.
Dunham vividly recalled a tense moment on set: “I remember doing a fight scene with Adam and how scary it was to meet someone so totally present with such absence.” She recounted a time when, while practicing lines in her trailer, her words suddenly vanished. Driver’s reaction was intense; he shouted, “FUCKING SAY SOMETHING” and threw a chair, urging her to re-engage.
Reflecting on their first sex scene, Dunham shared that “careful blocking went out the window” when Driver unexpectedly tossed her around. She described feeling stunned and momentarily unsure of her direction as a creator, questioning her authority in the process.
In Paper Tiger, Driver portrays an ex-cop entangled in a scheme alongside Miles Teller’s character. Their plan to start an environmental business takes a chaotic turn, involving Russian mafia elements in New York City’s canal systems.
The film, directed by James Gray, marked his sixth world premiere at Cannes and received a ten-minute standing ovation, double the length of applause for his previous film presented at the festival, Armageddon Time.
Neon secured the U.S. distribution rights to Paper Tiger shortly after its announcement to compete at Cannes.
