Rooster Wraps Up Freshman Season as HBO’s Most Popular Comedy Debut in 15 Years
HBO’s ‘Rooster’ Ends Debut Season as Most-Watched Comedy in Over 15 Years
HBO’s new comedy series Rooster has concluded its inaugural season, emerging as the network’s most-watched comedy debut in more than 15 years, according to Warner Bros. Discovery.
In a report released on Thursday, the company indicated that the season finale attracted 2.2 million U.S. viewers within its first three days. While this figure is slightly lower than the 2.4 million who tuned in for the premiere, it reflects a steady performance across its ten episodes.
Overall, Rooster averaged 6.5 million U.S. viewers per episode throughout its season, marking a notable achievement for HBO’s comedy lineup.
Set in a college environment, Rooster explores the complex relationship between an author, played by Steve Carell, and his daughter, portrayed by Charly Clive. The series also stars Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai, with Connie Britton appearing in a recurring role.
The show is co-run by executive producers Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses, alongside contributors from Doozer, including Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. Other key players in the production include Jonathan Krisel, Barbie Adler, Annie Mebane, David Stassen, Anthony King, David Hyman, and Carell himself. Warner Bros. Television produced the series, which benefits from overall deals for both Doozer and Tarses.
