Lily Allen made a long-awaited return to Studio 8H this weekend, gracing the stage of Saturday Night Live for the first time in nearly two decades. The occasion was made even more special with a surprise appearance by Dakota Johnson, who joined Allen for a rendition of “Madeline” from Allen’s newly released album West End Girl.
Allen’s latest album, scheduled for release in October, draws inspiration from her impending divorce from actor David Harbour. The song "Madeline" specifically reflects an exchange between Allen and the woman involved in her marital turmoil.
During the performance, Johnson initially appeared as a silhouette behind a curtain, voicing a phone conversation. She made her full entrance at the song’s conclusion, sharing a heartfelt kiss with Allen.
The episode, hosted by Josh O’Connor, also featured Allen performing her track "Sleepwalking" and participating in a sketch related to her music. Johnson’s surprise appearance marks a return to SNL for her, having previously hosted the show last year alongside musical guest Justin Timberlake.
