Oxnard Man Receives Life Sentence for Child Sexual Assault
Oxnard Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Child Sexual Abuse
LOS ANGELES — Jesus Gonzalez-Arteaga, a 44-year-old resident of Oxnard, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 91 years, for the continuous sexual abuse and rape of a child, according to Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko.
The abuse occurred from 2018 to 2024, starting when the victim was just six years old. It continued for five years within the same household until the victim, now eleven, reported the incidents to a trusted family member.
On April 9, 2026, a jury convicted Gonzalez-Arteaga on six felony counts, which included continuous sexual abuse, unlawful acts with a child under ten, and forcible rape. The jury determined he had inflicted great bodily injury during the commission of the abuse, which triggered the mandatory life sentence.
Timeline of Events:
- 2018: The sexual abuse began when the victim was six years old.
- 2018–2024: The abuse continued while Gonzalez-Arteaga lived in the same home as the victim.
- 2024: The victim disclosed the abuse to a family member and then to law enforcement.
- April 9, 2026: Gonzalez-Arteaga was found guilty on all counts and special allegations.
- May 12, 2026: He was officially sentenced to life in prison.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Twyla Atmore commented on the sentencing, stating, “The sentence imposed today reflects the devastating and lifelong harm caused by the defendant’s actions. Even after being convicted, the defendant has refused to accept responsibility, continuing instead to blame the child he abused in a demonstration of his complete lack of remorse and accountability.”
