Other Angle Collaborates with Action Director David Charhon on ‘Prison Fight’ Starring Tewfik Jallab, Nassim Lyes, and Jean-Claude Van Damme at Cannes Market
Exclusive: Other Angle Teams Up with David Charhon for ‘Prison Fight’
Other Angle has announced a collaboration with French director David Charhon for the upcoming Thai boxing drama Prison Fight, slated for a sales launch at Cannes.
The film, inspired by true events, tells the story of three brothers whose promising boxing careers are disrupted by personal challenges. Kaïs finds himself in prison, Samy faces a terminal illness, and the youngest brother, Abel, a rising boxer, decides to leave everything behind to travel to Thailand.
Abel’s outward purpose for going to Thailand is to compete in an underground tournament known as Prison Fight, where inmates face off against outsiders for a shot at freedom. However, his deeper motivation is to free his brother from incarceration.
The film boasts a diverse ensemble cast that includes Tewfik Jallab (Paris Has Fallen), Salim Kechiouche (Mektoub, My Love), Nassim Lyes (Under Paris), Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Ava Baya (GTMAX). Additionally, real-life Prison Fight participant Rayan Bouazza and several MMA fighters are set to appear. Filming is scheduled to begin later this year, with an anticipated release in 2027.
This partnership marks another collaboration between Other Angle and Charhon, as the company previously sold his action-comedy The Gardener and produced his 2021 film The Last Mercenary.
Prison Fight is one of three new titles featured in Other Angle’s Cannes slate. It will be accompanied by Children of the Resistance 2, the second film from director Christophe Barratier, known for The Chorus and War of the Buttons. This adaptation of the comic strip revolves around three French children in a small village during World War II who engage in acts of resistance against the Nazis. The returning cast includes Gérard Jugnot, François-Xavier Demaison, Lucas Hector, Nina Fibrand, Octave Gerbi, and Pierre Deladonchamps, with filming set for summer 2023 and a release by Studiocanal in 2027.
Additionally, Other Angle is developing The Little Butcher, a film by Jean-Luc Gaget about a butcher’s son aspiring to become a comic book author, much to his parents’ dismay. The cast features Pierre Lottin (The Stranger), India Hair (Parallel Tales), Maud Wyler, and Philippe Katerine.
In a separate initiative, the company plans to introduce Mélanie Charbonneau’s Canadian roller-hockey comedy The Furies to international markets following its successful theatrical run in Canada.
