Neighbor describes his experience confronting burglars in Studio City
Neighbor Confronts Burglars in Studio City Incident
A burglary in Studio City escalated into violence Friday when a neighbor attempted to intervene and was attacked.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the break-in occurred around noon while the homeowners were away.
Steve Calabro, a resident in the area, was alerted by the family after they observed the crime unfolding on their surveillance cameras. Upon arriving at the home, he confronted the suspected burglars as they exited the property.
Calabro reported that while he attempted to photograph the suspects, one of them sprayed him with a substance from a large canister, causing skin irritation. He provided images that appear to document the moment he was sprayed.
In addition to Calabro’s account, the homeowners shared footage from their security cameras, which shows two individuals inside the house. One suspect can be seen picking up a shoe as both proceeded to the second floor.
The suspects reportedly exited through an adjacent vacant property and left the scene in a white vehicle, where a third individual appeared to be waiting.
Calabro emphasized that this particular home has been targeted multiple times, along with a neighboring property. The LAPD has not responded to inquiries regarding previous incidents in the area.
"This is the fourth time in this neighborhood. It’s not a question of being scared. It’s a question of being mad," Calabro stated. "These guys aren’t going to get away with this. Not in this neighborhood. When I grew up, it was all about taking care of each other, and that’s what we do here."
Calabro indicated that his neighbors reported jewelry stolen during the incident. As of now, no arrests have been made, and police continue to investigate.
In light of this incident, more than 30 break-ins have been reported across the San Fernando Valley since last month, raising concerns among residents.
